In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has become widely integrated into the education sector, and students have increasingly begun to use it actively for completing independent assignments, research work, presentations, and essay writing. The purpose of this study is to identify the current status of AI use in students’ independent assignments and to examine the emerging benefits and challenges associated with its use. The findings indicate that while AI has a positive impact on supporting the learning process, it also poses potential risks to academic integrity, over-reliance on technology, and the validity of assessment outcomes.
