Aerobic gymnastics is a discipline of competitive gymnastics that expresses continuous, high-intensity movements requiring strength, flexibility, and complex motor skills in coordination with music. In other words, aerobic gymnastics originates from traditional aerobic exercises and involves performing high-intensity, complex movements combined with music, showcasing both artistic and technical excellence. The development of aerobic gymnastics began in the 1970s–1980s, based on fitness and dance aerobics, as well as military training exercises, and since the 1990s, it has become an official discipline of the FIG. Aerobic gymnastics has evolved as a form of conditioning, recreational, and competitive sport. In Mongolia, it initially developed in the form of sports gymnastics, and later, government initiatives incorporated it into primary school curricula. Historical records indicate that organizations such as the Central Palace of Trade Unions, MNUE and other universities, the “Khuch” Sports Society, district sports committees, the Central Committee of the Mongolian Youth Federation, and the MGF made significant contributions to its development. The official national championship of Mongolia has been organized since 1992 and has continued to expand, now attracting athletes from rural provinces across the country.
