Abstract

Children with developmental disabilities require a comprehensive range of services known as early intervention services. Some disabilities need specialized support, which often includes common approaches to prevention, early detection, and care. It is essential that child development assessments are accurate, reliable, and multifaceted. Relying solely on indicators such as IQ or age-related developmental indexes does not adequately address practical needs. In our study, we used the internationally recognized “Ages and Stages Questionnaire” (ASQ) to assess children's development. This survey was administered to children whose parents or caregivers were unaware that their child was lagging behind peers in development. A total of 10 children from both urban and rural areas participated in the study. The ASQ offers several advantages: it helps regularly monitor a child’s development, identify developmental strengths, and detect potential socio-emotional problems. By utilizing the ASQ methodology, parents can increase their understanding of age-appropriate developmental stages, actively support their child's growth, and easily track their progress. ASQ Questionnaires are the most cost-effective, reliable way to screen young children for developmental delays in the first 5 years of life. First, parents try each activity on the questionnaire with their child, checking the box that best describes what the child can do. Clear questions, illustrations, and tips help parents complete the questionnaires quickly and accurately.
