Socrates on Knowledge and Education

Abstract

This article aims to examine and elucidate selected ideas on knowledge and education articulated by Socrates, whose philosophical contributions have exerted a lasting influence on the history of Philosophy.
As a foundational figure in moral philosophy, Socrates’ central thesis that “virtue is knowledge” underscores the essential role of knowledge and education in the formation of ethical conduct. 
 Furthermore, Socrates emphasizes the importance of self-knowledge and the understanding of others, arguing that individuals can avoid error, misconception, and failure through the recognition and cultivation of their innate capacities and talents. In this respect, his philosophy foregrounds self-examination and education as fundamental conditions for personal development and ethical living.
